Hi everyone, I am a scientist, teacher, and artist that especially loves dragons. You can find me on many platforms as I rebuild my love of art again.

THE GENERATOR

Will generate a mighty beast with 4 parameters for your prompting delight.

- a fanciful body type

- an animal influence

- and two themes to model from

- free, but please consider crediting me if you use it for your beauties!

Have fun, go ham, and PLEASE share what you create yourself on my socials, I would love to see what people do making use of it :)

CONTEXT

Every year #Smaugust arises and I have done a few prompts over the years but I found after such a long while seeing it happen each time, similar/same prompts come up. Creatively I feel less motivated with them and so ages ago on my Twitter I built and posted an Excel random dragon generator that included a body type, animal influence, and two crossed themes prompt. I felt these extra limitations/inspirations forced a lot of creative problem solving much like the Twitter Build a Dragon I did that was INCREDIBLY fun to me.

I didn't realise at the time however, that Excel isn't accessible to everyone, and the work I did in it did NOT translate well over to Google Sheets. My bad.

Smaugust is coming up again, and this year... I thought about how useful the little Excel generator was to me personally. How can I make this more accessible to others? I love game jams, and dabbled in gdscript but never actually finished anything as scope always became too big and learning curves too high. Well turns out a random dragon generator was the perfect small project to practice coding, and create something with a finite scope that was achievable.

Most of my 'coding' knowledge comes from science analytics in Excel and well, for this particular project it was handy (I'm looking at you if, else, and concatenate functions). I will not however profess for even a second that the coding is tidy, or efficient, really I'm just stoked I both finished something, and that it works.

Voice of reason: My SO Andrew. Thank you for holding me to my original scope (extra ideas did make their way in but this would have been never finished and bigger than Ben Hur if I had no one to remind me to keep it where it was).

UPDATES

I actually am more than happy for other prompt ideas to add, so please let me know and I may add them! I made a JSON text file so its easy for me to edit and I may even review it each year for other stuff to put in.

This does make me also keen for an idea to build something for #Creaturanuary!
